US Wind Receives Key Permits From The State Of Delaware

NREC approvals allow Company to deliver clean energy to the regionÂ
(December 10, 2024) â US Wind, Inc. (âUS Windâ) announces that the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (âDNRECâ) has approved three permit applications to connect its offshore wind power to the regional electrical grid in Sussex County, Delaware. The permits â Subaqueous Lands Permit, Wetlands Permit, and Beach Preservation Coastal Construction Permit â advance US Windâs onshore development activities.
âThis is an important step forward,â said Jeff Grybowski, US Wind CEO. âAfter a thorough, science-based review by DNRECâs experts, and feedback from the public, we are thrilled to have secured these final approvals to move forward on delivering massive amounts of clean energy to the region. Offshore wind will help lower electricity bills for the people of Delaware, satisfy the regionâs critical need for more electricity, and improve air quality across the state, all while supporting good local jobs. These projects will be a home run for the people of Delaware for decades to come.â
DNRECâs final approvals allow US Wind to responsibly land its power cables underneath 3Râs Beach parking lot in the Delaware Seashore State Park and safely route them under the Indian River Bay, ultimately connecting to the regional electrical grid at Delmarva Power and Lightâs Indian River substation in Dagsboro, Delaware. Pursuant to these permits, US Wind also commits to providing compensatory mitigation and sponsorship of important local infrastructure projects to protect and support the stateâs unique environment.
DNREC permit approvals follow closely on the heels of major advancements on the federal level. Last week, US Wind announced that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (âBOEMâ) had issued its final approval of its Construction and Operations Plan (âCOPâ), marking the agencyâs final permit on US Windâs federal permitting application. For more information, please visit BOEMâs website. Additionally, the National Marine Fisheries Service (âNMFSâ) issued a Letter of Authorization to US Wind on November 26, 2024, marking that agencyâs final authorization for US Wind. In addition to developing clean energy for the region, US Wind is also establishing Sparrows Point Steel, Marylandâs first permanent offshore wind manufacturing facility at the former site of Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore County. US Wind is owned by funds managed by Apollo Global Management, an American investment firm, and Renexia SpA, a subsidiary of Toto Holding SpA.
