SPP Grows Workforce in Little Rock, Arkansas to Support Regional Market Expansion

Headquartered in Little Rock, Ark., Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is expanding services with a $150 million project designed to accommodate growth and streamline the electric grid for greater efficiency and reliability.

By the end of 2027, SPP projects the creation of approximately 190 new engineering, IT, market administration, and support positions, including about 165 jobs in Little Rock, as part of its corporate growth and market expansion. Backed by secured financing, the project will support the development and continued operation of an innovative energy market known as Markets+, which will serve the Pacific Northwest, Mountain West, and Desert Southwest regions of the United States.

SPP’s expansion reflects the growing reach and value of its services as it extends operations into the western United States. The organization is widely recognized within the energy industry for its expertise in ensuring reliable and affordable wholesale electricity across a region stretching from Texas to North Dakota, with expanded service planned for additional western states.

The investment underscores Arkansas’ role in supporting critical national infrastructure and reinforces Little Rock’s position as a hub for energy operations, technology, and corporate growth. The expansion strengthens the operational foundation required to support dependable, affordable energy for families and businesses while contributing to sustained economic development across the region.

Founded in 1941, Southwest Power Pool is a nonprofit regional transmission organization mandated to ensure reliable power supplies, adequate transmission infrastructure, and competitive wholesale electricity prices on behalf of its members. The organization is headquartered in Little Rock at 201 Worthen Drive.

The project is expected to have a significant economic impact in Central Arkansas by creating quality jobs, strengthening the local talent pipeline, and delivering long-term benefits to working families. SPP’s continued growth highlights the region’s ability to support complex energy technologies and large-scale corporate operations that are essential to the nation’s electric grid.

Southwest Power Pool will be hiring for a range of positions as part of the expansion. Applications for available roles can be found at https://www.spp.org/careers.
