[Cherry Hill, NJ] – Riggs Distler, a leader in offshore wind development, is proud to announce its partnership with Vineyard Offshore for the Vineyard Wind 2 project. This collaboration is set to bring significant economic and environmental benefits to Rhode Island and the surrounding region.

The Vineyard Wind 2 project, proposed by Vineyard Offshore, is a 1,200 megawatt (MW) offshore wind project that promises $80 million in direct economic expenditures in Rhode Island. In addition, up to $26.5 million will be allocated for local workforce and economic development, technology innovation, support for low-income ratepayers, and marine resources, including the commercial fishing industry.

As part of this landmark project, Riggs Distler will localize the fabrication and assembly of secondary steel components for foundations, including internal and external working platforms and boat landings, at the Port of Providence (ProvPort). This initiative, similar to the work Riggs Distler has performed for Ørsted’s South Fork and Revolution Wind projects, will utilize union labor and regional subcontractors, resulting in an estimated 150 personnel working onsite during the construction phase, accounting for a total of 300 job-years of employment.

“Our Rhode Island operation has become a vital part of the growing offshore wind industry,” said Chris Johnston, Vice President Offshore Wind, Riggs Distler. “We look forward to building on our work to date by partnering with Vineyard Offshore on Vineyard Wind 2.”

Should the ProvPort site be unavailable when needed for Vineyard Wind 2, the work will shift to the new Waterson Terminal Site being developed in East Providence (East ProvPort, or South Quay). Vineyard Offshore has already signed a letter of intent for this contingency.

Riggs Distler is honored to contribute to this transformative project, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development in the region.
